Daniel Perales was killed while working at U-Totem Icehouse

SAN ANTONIO – It's been more than 40 years since an Army veteran was slain during a robbery. San Antonio police have released the name of a man who either may have been involved in or witnessed the crime.

Daniel Perales was working by himself in the U-Totem Icehouse in the 4800 block of Thousand Oaks Drive on Jan. 28, 1976. Police said unknown suspects walked in and shot him one time, then left with $107.

By the time officers arrived at the business, Perales was dead on the floor behind the counter.

Police said Perales had recently been discharged from the U.S. Army. He was working two jobs to support his family.

"One male possibly involved or a witness to the incident has been identified as 'Billy Lopez' and was 17 at the time of the murder," police said.

The case is still being investigated by SAPD's Cold Case Squad.
